Enrolling Your Child in Competitive Theater Classes for Kids
Competitive theater takes school performances many steps further; as a specialized branch of performing arts education, it creates opportunities for young actors to compete in structured contests.

These competitions take place at local, regional, and national levels, providing students with opportunities to showcase their talents before industry professionals. Moss Performing Arts Academy proudly offers this program, and our students and families eagerly anticipate the challenges.
There are some fantastic benefits, too.
Theater Classes for Kids Build Essential Life Skills
Theater competition classes and performances develop essential abilities that flow into every part of our students’ lives.
Public Speaking
Public speaking confidence emerges naturally as students practice delivering lines and performing live—those experiences are invaluable in academic presentations, job interviews, and social situations.
Critical Thinking
Critical thinking skills strengthen as our young performers analyze character motivations, interpret scripts, and make creative choices about their performances. They learn to think on their feet and adapt quickly to unexpected situations during live performances.
Emotional Intelligence
Through character study and scene work, children's emotional intelligence grows as well. They express different emotions while learning to read and respond to their scene partners. These interpersonal skills benefit friendships, family relationships, and future work interactions. We proudly help them build a community of well-versed artists who network, collaborate, and develop quick, creative thinking.
Life’s a Stage: Theater Travel Experiences
Moss Performing Arts Academy holds competitive theater classes for kids every year, and the students perform at events, attend competitions, and participate in workshops and conventions.
Our teams have traveled to:
- New York City, to learn from the very best and compete against national and international teams.
- Georgia, for the Junior Theatre Festival.
- Florida, for The National Performing Arts Festival.
In February 2025, our competitive stage theater team earned second place overall in the Musical Production Open Advanced category at MTCA in California. One of our students received first place in senior monologue, and two were awarded scholarships to summer programs and schools.
Theater Competitions Build Confidence
These exciting competitions drive personal growth and self-discovery. Students face their fears by performing solo pieces in front of audiences, forging resilience and courage that will benefit them for life. The structured feedback process is also important, as it helps children understand their strengths and areas for improvement.
Goal-setting becomes second nature as Moss Performing Arts Academy theater competition students prepare for upcoming events. We teach them to break down large objectives into manageable daily practice sessions, which develop discipline and time management skills. They learn patience and persistence, as mastering a monologue or scene requires consistent effort.
Success in competition builds genuine self-esteem based on hard work and achievement. They gain confidence knowing they can overcome challenges through preparation and practice, practice, practice. Even when they don't place first, our students learn valuable lessons for their next performances.
Our students support each other through preparation, offering encouragement and constructive criticism. These friendships last well beyond the program. And as they meet new peers from different schools, communities, and backgrounds, their worlds open up to more diversity and broader perspectives.
